This rain season be prepared and prevent any potential water damage. Here is a list of tips to help avoid damage.

  • Maintain your roof with regular roof inspections: Do yearly inspections so that you are not caught off guard by rain leaks. Know ahead of time and get it taken care of before it causes you problems and costs more money.
  • Weather Stripping: Most people think of weather stripping to help keep their home well insolated for hot or cold weather. Weatherstripping can also help against water damage by sealing cracks or gaps around doors and windows.
  • Clean your gutter and rain spout: You should clean your gutter and rain spout at least two times a year to remove any build of leaves and debris. This will prevent water from running down the side of your home and getting into cracks and gaps.
  • Pick the right paint: Today's paint is not just a color. If you choose a good paint made for the outdoors it will be waterproof and have UV protection.
  • Check your windows: older homes with single-pane windows are more likely to have condensation issues, let in humidity, and have gaps and cracks. We recommend using caulking to fill in any gaps and invest in storm windows.
  • Repair concrete: if you have concrete in your home you might notice some cracks. It natural for that to happen over time. These are easily repaired with some concrete chalk.
  • Seal any gaps and cracks: Gaps and cracks can show up in your windows (see number 5) as well as your doors, and walls. Get those sealed up to prevent or lessen any damage.
